PM Career Alignment Tip: Your value is not tied to how productive you are.
Read that again.
Because there will be times when your output ebbs and flows. It’s natural! We’re human!
But we’re taught early on that our value is tied directly to how productive, proficient, and ahead of our peers we are.
We internalize these rules and judge ourselves.
So when we’re in a period of less-than-optimal productivity, we beat ourselves up!
Hide a little. Feel crappy.
And honestly, during a not-so-glamorous spell of just being human, you actually still get a lot done.
We’re just trained to overlook things that don’t come with a killer dopamine rush.
I said it. So, can we train ourselves to not feel crappy during our “being human” times? I believe we can.
What do you do to feel better (or what do you focus on) when you’re feeling not-so-productive?
I’ve got some suggestions of my own in the comments.
